Njáll Þórólfsson
Njáll recently married the beautiful Herdís Ólafsdóttir, daughter of the local goði Ólafur Black-Tooth, to whom Njáll is fiercely loyal. He lives with his wife and three thralls on a farm near his family’s lands by the margins of White River in the west quarter of Iceland. He is a competent fisherman and makes a good living from his farm, but his ambition is to become a famous and wealthy Viking raider. Njáll’s grandmother was from Ireland and he has long wanted to visit her homeland.
Ísgerður Haldorsdóttir
Ísgerður lives at her family’s farm in the Westfjords of Iceland. Her father is well regarded as a law expert and has greatly profited over the years from mediating disputes. Despite her parents’ efforts to find her a husband, she has so far rejected all suitors. When she was a child, she befriended—and eventually fell in love with—a boy rom the hidden people. Though it’s been many years since Ísgerður has seen him, she still hopes he will return for her someday. Just like her grandmother, who taught her how to perform seiður magic, Ísgerður is headstrong and opinionated. She has two older brothers. Her family’s farm primarily produces milk and skyr and owns two horses, seven cows, and eight sheep.
Prymur Sörlason
Þrymur's parents and siblings were victims of a blood feud, having been burned alive in their house by a rival family. Þrymur was 16 years old at the time and only escaped thanks to rune magic he learned from an uncle. He was unable to save anyone else from his family and that failure still haunts him. His family’s killers were outlawed and have fled Iceland, but Þrymur has sworn to one day find them and avenge their crimes. Þrymur is unmarried, living on the farm he inherited from his family. He owns two horses, two cows, and six sheep.
Birna Flosadóttir
Birna’s father was a wealthy chieftain in Norway but had to flee the country with his pregnant wife when the king decided to take control of his land by force. The journey to Iceland was a very difficult one, and many people perished in the rough seas, including Birna’s father. Birna was born in Iceland and was raised by her father’s cousin who had settled in the country a few years before. While growing up, she traveled the whole of the island with the family, trading goods brought into Iceland by foreign traders. Birna recently married her father’s cousin’s son Kjartan, and the two settled on a farm by the coast. She has a one-year-old daughter named Álfdís. Her farm has two horses, two cows, six sheep, and two thralls.

Iceland
On the west of Norway comes the island called Iceland, with the mighty ocean washing round it: a land very squalid to dwell in, but noteworthy for marvels, both strange occurrences, and objects that pass belief.
